Duilio Cascio, Ph.D.

I am Associate Director/Manager of the UCLA-DOE Macromolecular Crystallization and X-ray Crystallography Facilities at UCLA. My research interests involve the determination of the structure-functional relationships in proteins using crystallography approaches. I have been working in this area for more than 25 years. I have been collaborating with Dr. Kurtz’s UCLA team on the crystallography studies of the major erythrocyte membrane protein anion exchanger 1 (AE1). These efforts by the team have led to the generation of human AE1 crystals that we are now studying.  My experience in protein crystallography, coupled with the important transporters we are characterizing structurally, makes me excited about my long-term involvement with the outstanding scientists who are part of the UCLA team.
